Platetrade Group, through its subsidiary Platemaritime, decided to settle in Paraguay motivated by the economic stability and constant development of the country and the climate of business opportunities.

“We seek to consolidate a real presence by offering our door-to-door transportation services for general cargo and project cargo as well as specialized services in land transportation for ordered cargo,” explained Sebastián Zalaya, CEO of the Platetrade Group, about the firm's objectives.

The executive added that they hope to establish long-term relationships with the country's main exporters and importers and construction and EPC companies. “We are in the exploration and decision stage about investing in assets linked to logistics, excluding the river shipping market in which we believe there are already many players,” he noted.

Within the framework of this project, it is worth highlighting the strategic alliance between Platemaritime and the Korean group CJ-ICM. “This is key for the development of logistics since the group has its own offices in 44 countries and assets such as ports and warehouses with specialized trucks in the project,” highlighted Fabián Di Stefano, CEO of Platemaritime, representative of the Korean company.

A prolific career

After its founding in 1995, one of Platetrade's first achievements is the representation of Coreck Maritime GmbH. In 2000, it won 40% of Tenaris' annual tenders to the Persian Gulf, and a year later it obtained the representation of Nepa Shipping, developing Tenaris' business in Iraq. Likewise, it signed a four-year contract with Gravetal Bolivia for the shipment of 280,000 tons of soybeans from Bolivia to Colombia. During that period, it obtained the representation of Scanscot Shipping Services GmbH to develop the steel market and projects for clients such as Tenaris, Ternium, Techint, Impsa and others.

Since that initial push, Platetrade has not stopped growing:

  • 2002: Executes the shipment of 31 tons of the dismantled petrochemical plant (RHASA), 3,400 cbm used for fuel processing, which was purchased by RHASA in the US for Renesa, its subsidiary in Argentina.
  • 2003: Obtains representation from Scantrans Shipping Denmark, and develops 130,000 mt of steel from Brazil to West Africa. COA signed for four years, 580,000 tons of granite from Puerto Madryn to Italy including internal distribution in Italy. Maintains most of the business with Siderca (Tenaris Group) from Argentina to the Mediterranean. Carry out the gas project for Impsa from Argentina to the Philippines.
  • 2004: Signs a five-year contract with for the transportation of wood on pallets between Montevideo, Baltimore and Savannah, shipping 480,000 cbm.
  • 2007: Executes with Impsa, the Bakun project, Lyanyugang (China) with 33 shipments, including rotors, shutters, turbines, steel plates and valves. Signs a four-year contract with SMDO France for the import of industrial generators from France to Argentina.

  • 2009: Signs the representation with Thorco Shipping and incorporates a commercial platform for Argentina and Uruguay, for this new shipowner.
  • 2010/12: Executes for Petrochemical Comodoro Rivadavia, one million tons of cement in break bulk and pallets from Comodoro Rivadavia to Asunción del Paraguay and Villeta through Nueva Palmira.
  • 2012: Obtains representation of the German shipowner HC Chartering, operates multipurpose vessels, and is dedicated to project cargo, general cargo and steel market, closing a COA of 25,000 cbm of a cement plant from Tianjin and Shanghai to Villeta, Paraguay via Nueva Palmira, Uruguay. Client: Camargo Correa, project name: Yguazu Cementos Plant.
  • 2013: Obtains representation of Hansa Heavy Lift, one of the leading shipowners in heavy and offshore cargo.
  • 2014: Obtain the representation of HongFa Shipping, a leading shipowner of the Chinese State, with break bulk and project cargo liner service between China and Southeast Asia, round trip to Argentina and Brazil.
  • 2015: Shipment of 225,000 cbm of pine logs from Montevideo to Taicang, China closes. Transports a Crushing Plant to Ukraine, in two shipments of 3,700 tons of a dismantled plant. It was shipped from the port of Rosario, towards Illichevsk, Ukraine.
  • 2016: Executes and coordinates with HongFa Shipping, the unloading of wagons and locomotives from the Belgrano Cargas railway.
  • 2017: Together with HongFa, carry out the expansion of the Axion Energy refinery in Campana. Three vessels with between 15,000 and 18,000 cbm of large non-stackable modules are shipped from Gaolan to Campana.
  • 2018: Executes the expansion of the Molino Cañuelas bottling plant, from Hamburg and China to the plant. Aña Cuá Project, with three shipments for Impsa, from China to Europe for the expansion of Yaciretá.
  • 2019: Executes the expansion of the Quilmes Brewery plant (Ambev Group) shipping from Europe to the plant. Currently, it executes a contract with volume of frac sand for consecutive shipments of ceramic proppants for Vaca Muerta.

Platetrade has coordinated the discharge operation of a turbocharger, destined for the Nestor Kirchner gas pipeline, in Bahía Blanca, Argentina.

The shipment comprised 60 packages, including heavy lift cargo weighing 45 tonnes and 650 tonnes respectively. Platetrade positioned special trailers next to the vessel ready to receive the cargoes and transport them to Salliqueló. The Nestor Kirchner gas pipeline is one of the largest projects in Argentina. The first phase of the project includes a pipeline from Vaca Muerta in the Neuquen province to La Pampa. The second phase is now under way and will supply gas from Patagonia to the Misiones province in northeast Argentina.

This is the second turbocharger Platetrade has transported for the project.

Platetrade has coordinated the discharge operation of a turbocharger, destined for the Nestor Kirchner gas pipeline, in Bahía Blanca, Argentina.

The shipment comprised 60 packages, including heavy lift cargo weighing 45 tonnes and 650 tonnes respectively. Platetrade positioned special trailers next to the vessel ready to receive the cargoes and transport them to Salliqueló. The Nestor Kirchner gas pipeline is one of the largest projects in Argentina. The first phase of the project includes a pipeline from Vaca Muerta in the Neuquen province to La Pampa. The second phase is now under way and will supply gas from Patagonia to the Misiones province in northeast Argentina.

This is the second turbocharger Platetrade has transported for the project.

Platetrade ha coordinado la operación de descarga de un turbocompresor, con destino al gasoducto Néstor Kirchner, en Bahía Blanca, Argentina.

El envío estaba compuesto por 60 paquetes, incluida una carga pesada que pesaba 45 toneladas y 650 toneladas respectivamente. Platetrade colocó remolques especiales junto al buque listos para recibir las cargas y transportarlas hasta Salliqueló. El gasoducto Néstor Kirchner es uno de los proyectos más grandes de Argentina. La primera fase del proyecto incluye un oleoducto desde Vaca Muerta en la provincia de Neuquén hasta La Pampa. La segunda fase ya está en marcha y suministrará gas desde la Patagonia a la provincia de Misiones, en el noreste de Argentina. Este es el segundo turbocompresor que Platetrade transporta para el proyecto.

Con la vista puesta en el futuro, Platetrade vislumbra consolidar su presencia en el cabotaje argentino como transportista de carga general y de proyecto. Asimismo, apunta a incrementar las frecuencias desde todos los orígenes de importación hacia los puertos de la hidrovía Paraná-Paraguay.

Una prolífica trayectoria Tras su fundación en 1995, uno de los primeros logros de Platetrade es la representación de Coreck Maritime GmbH. En el año 2000, gana el 40% de las licitaciones anuales de Tenaris al Golfo Pérsico, y un año más tarde obtiene la representación de Nepa Shipping, desarrollando el negocio de Tenaris a Irak. Asimismo, rubrica un contrato por cuatro años con Gravetal Bolivia para el embarque de 280.000 toneladas de soja desde Bolivia a Colombia. En ese período, obtiene la representación de Scanscot Shipping Services GmbH para desarrollar el mercado de aceros y proyecto para clientes como Tenaris, Ternium, Techint, Impsa y otros

Desde ese impulso inicial, Platetrade no paró de crecer:

-2002: Ejecuta el embarque de 31 toneladas de la planta petroquímica desarmada (RHASA), 3.400 cbm utilizada para el procesamiento de combustible, que fue comprada por RHASA en EE. UU. para Renesa, su subsidiaria en Argentina.
-2003: Obtiene la representación de Scan- trans Shipping Dinamarca, y desarrolla 130.000 mt de aceros desde Brasil al Oeste de África.
Firma COA por cuatro años, 580.000 toneladas de granito desde Puerto Madryn a Italia incluyendo la distribución interna en Italia.

Mantiene la mayoría de los negocios con Siderca (Grupo Tenaris) desde Argentina al Mediterráneo.

Lleva a cabo el proyecto de gas para Impsa desde Argentina a Filipinas.

-2004: Firma un contrato de cinco años con para el transporte de madera en pallets entre Montevideo, Baltimore y Savannah, embarcando 480.000 cbm.
-2007: Ejecuta con Impsa, el proyecto Bakun, Lyanyugang (China) con 33 embarques, incluyendo rotores, obturadores, turbinas, placas de acero y válvulas.

Firma contrato por cuatro años con SMDO France para la importación de generadores industriales desde Francia a la Argentina.
-2008: Obtiene la representación exclusiva de Beluga Shipping Group para Argentina y Uruguay. Con el apoyo de esta gran flota, se fortalece la relación con Tenaris y Ternium. Cemento Yguazu.
-2009: Firma la representación con Thorco Shipping e incorpora una plataforma comercial para Argentina y Uruguay, para este nuevo armador.
-2010/12: Ejecuta para Petroquímica Comodoro Rivadavia, un millón de toneladas de cemento en break bulk y pallets desde Comodoro Rivadavia hacia Asunción del Paraguay y Villeta a través de Nueva Palmira.
-2012: Consigue la representación del armador alemán HC Chartering, opera buques multipropósito, y se dedica a la carga de proyecto, carga general y mercado de aceros, cerrando un COA de 25.000 cbm de una planta de cemento desde Tianjin y Shanghai a Villeta, Paraguay vía Nueva Palmira, Uruguay. Cliente: Camargo Correa, nombre del proyecto: Planta de Cementos Yguazu.
-2013: Obtiene la representación de Hansa Heavy Lift, uno de los armadores líderes en carga pesada y offshore.
-2014: Consigue la representación de HongFa Shipping, armador de primera línea del Estado Chino, con servicio liner de carga break bulk y de proyecto entre China y Sudeste asiático, ida y vuelta a Argentina y Brasil.
-2015: Cierra embarque de 225.000 cbm jas de troncos de pino desde Montevideo a Taicang, China.
Ejecuta el transporte de una Crushing Plant a Ucrania, en dos embarques de 3.700 tons de una planta desarmada. Fue embarcada desde el puerto de Rosario, hacia Illichevsk, Ucrania.
-2016: Ejecuta y coordina con HongFa Shipping, la descarga de vagones y locomotoras del ferrocarril Belgrano Cargas.
-2017: Realiza junto con HongFa la expansión de la refinería de Axion Energy en Campana. Se embarcan tres buques con entre 15.000 y 18.000 cbm de grandes módulos no apilables desde Gaolan a Campana.
-2018: Ejecuta la expansión de la planta embotelladora de Molino Cañuelas, desde Hamburgo y China hasta la planta.
Proyecto Aña Cuá, con tres embarques para Impsa, desde China a Europa para la expansión de Yaciretá.
-2019: Ejecuta la expansión de la planta Quilmes Brewery (Ambev Group) embarcando desde Europa hasta la planta.

Actualmente, ejecuta un contrato con de volumen de arena de fractura por embarques consecutivos de ceramic proppants para Vaca Muerta.

El grupo Platetrade, a través de su subsidiario Platemaritime, decidió instalarse en Paraguay motivado por la estabilidad económica y el desarrollo constante del país y el clima de oportunidades de negocios.

“Buscamos consolidar una presencia real ofreciendo nuestros servicios de transporte door to door para carga general y carga de proyecto así como también servicios especializados en transporte terrestre para cargas pedidas”, explicó Sebastián Zalaya, CEO del Grupo Platetrade, acerca de los objetivos de la firma.

El ejecutivo agregó que esperan establecer relaciones de largo plazo con los principales exportadores e importadores del país y constructoras y EPC. “Estamos en etapa de exploración y decisión sobre la inversión en activos ligados a la logística, excluyendo el mercado armatorial fluvial en el cual creemos que ya hay muchos jugadores”, apuntó.

En el marco de este proyecto cabe resaltar la alianza estratégica entre Platemaritime y el grupo coreano CJ-ICM. “Esto es clave para el desarrollo de la logística ya que el grupo posee oficinas propias en 44 países y assets cómo puertos y almacenes con camiones especializados en proyecto”, destacó Fabián Di Stefano, CEO de Platemaritime, representante de la compañía coreana.

La decisión de cuántos empleados contratarán en el país será consensuada entre el grupo Platetrade y el grupo CJICM. “Comenzaremos con un staff mediano y luego iremos midiendo el desarrollo de negocios y evaluando las contrataciones, incluyendo movilizar empleados de otras oficinas del mundo”, añadió Zalaya.
